May’s Top Reads: Rick Rule, Rare Earths and More
Check out May's email digest that details all the must-read items shared throughout the month.
Somehow, June is at our doorstep.
The meteorologists are even claiming that summer starts this month here in the U.S. But as things heat up, so do the storylines that are driving the financial markets and global political dynamics. As an author of multiple books on history, finance and geopolitical, I’d be remiss if I didn’t tell you that narratives matter.
What’s the story being told today? And what’s being overlooked?
First, the Trump tariffs seem to be cooling off – for now. But that does not mean that the trade war is going away. Second, Wall Street is learning how to navigate the tariffs and starting to close big M&A deals again, like NRG Energy buying LS Power Assets for $12 billion, Charter merging with Cox Communications in a $34.5 billion deal and Sunoco LP buying Parkland Corp for $9.1 billion.
It also means that new opportunities beyond the U.S. financial markets are emerging – some that might even be overlooked. In particular, for the months ahead, the countries best positioned on both ends of the U.S.-China trade tensions will be well placed to flourish.
Currently, we’re looking to areas like Vietnam, Brazil, India and South Korea as places businesses could seek alternative sourcing or manufacturing locations to either avoid or reduce the impacts of tariffs. Now, as it is often said, trade wars have no winners. But governments, businesses and investors that can maximize supply chain diversification and process improvements can derive real competitive advantages and returns.
If you’re watching the markets, staying informed, tuning out the noise, and balancing analysis with action – there are key ways to gain an edge.
That’s why, this month, we launched a brand-new product for our Prinsights Founders+ readers called the Small Cap Distortion Monitor. It’s where we highlight select smaller-cap companies with high-growth potential. So far, the feedback this month has been incredible. We can’t wait to share more next month. If you haven’t upgraded yet, now is a great time to join.
The trends we cover there and throughout Prinsights are all connected – and we’re full steam ahead. Below, you’ll find a quick recap of May:
